As the days grow shorter and the crisp autumn air settles in, we find ourselves in the middle of November and preparing for Thanksgiving — a day that invites us to slow down, reflect, and express gratitude for the many blessings in our lives. While Thanksgiving has deep roots in American history, its significance resonates globally. It’s a time to gather with family and friends, share a meal, and cherish both the big and small moments that make life meaningful.
In the fast-paced world we live in, Thanksgiving offers a gentle reminder to pause, reflect, and say “thank you.”
I am reminded of a powerful worship chorus we often sing in our churches.
Give thanks with a grateful heart,
Give thanks to the Holy One,
Give thanks because He’s given,
Jesus Christ His Son.
Gratitude is a powerful, transformative force. Many studies show that practicing gratitude on a regular basis can enhance our mental and physical well-being, boost happiness, and even improve our relationships. Thanksgiving provides the perfect opportunity to embrace this practice in a meaningful way.
While it’s easy to focus on our challenges, our problems, or things we wish we could change, Thanksgiving encourages us to shift our focus and look through another lens. Instead of dwelling on what we don’t have, we are invited to look at what we do. Whether it’s good health, a supportive community, or simply the comfort of home, there’s always something to be thankful for.
Thanksgiving isn’t only about abundance. It’s also an opportunity to give back and help those who may not have as much. Volunteering, donating food, or even reaching out to someone in need can bring the spirit of Thanksgiving to life in a profound way. Giving back is a way to extend our gratitude beyond ourselves and make a positive impact on the lives of others. This simple act of kindness reminds us that Thanksgiving is not just a holiday, but a state of mind we can carry with us every day.
As we approach Thanksgiving this year, let’s take a moment to reflect on the blessings we may sometimes overlook. Whether it’s the support of a friend, the warmth of a home, or the beauty of nature, there’s so much to be grateful for. This Thanksgiving, I challenge you to not only count your blessings but also share them. After all, gratitude is most powerful when it’s shared.
So, as we gather around our tables this Thanksgiving, let’s take a deep breath, appreciate the moment, and remember that the real essence of this holiday isn’t just in what we have, but in how we share it with others.
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV
May your Thanksgiving be filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Still Believing!
